Art Mastery and Musical Genius
Elaborate what these two disciplines entail and how the school provides to ensure students do appreciate them. Teachers, studio, instruments, concerts and chances to showcase what’s learnt to an audience.
Brushes, Strokes and the Canvas
In GRADE 11, I’ve been diving deeper into the world of art and music.
In art class, we’ve been studying and exploring different artistic techniques that we’re using for our final examination, and building on skills introduced to us from as early as Year 8.
I’ve experimented with various art mediums such as pencil, oil pastel, coloured pencil and water colours. I’ve also used integration of different media within my art pieces and use research on other artists’ techniques to help sharpen my skills and boost creativity, helping me further prepare for my final examinations in April 2025.
I plan to nurture my art skills to eventually venture into the world of interior design and continue to use art as a form of expression.
Beats, Strings and Movements
In Year 7 to 9, I used to take dance as a subject. In dance, we explored different genres such as Afro beat and Hip-hop. We also learnt kinesiology to help us understand our movements better. Lately, I have continued to use the knowledge gained from classes to actively participate in annual school productions where I was lead choreographer for Sarafina in the year 2023/24 and assistant choreographer for Mamma Mia! in the year 2022/23. I also participated in all Crawford annual school productions where I received certificates of commendation for my performance in Sarafina and Mamma Mia!.
Outside of school, I have continued to nurture my interest in dance and performance through participation in an external dance fundraising event known as Happy Feet where my team came 2nd in the U17 category.
Furthermore, I have also participated in Crawford’s Got Talent 2023/24 where I came 1st place overall for my dance performance and received a scroll from my school for dance.
At Crawford, a scroll is an award given to students when they show immense skill and outstanding performance that exceeds standards of a specific department. This award can be given in categories/departments such as academics, sports, leadership or service and is one of the highest forms of wards that you can receive at the school.
